Many Other People

More Found Lost Tapes

I wish I could say I remember recording this song.

In the shadows of my mind, I see a cloudy day in Brooklyn, soot covered tenement building, and somebody saying, “Give this a listen. I’m hearing you do harmony, can you do it?” Maybe it’s the record company, Parallel World, or maybe it’s my friend Josh who I work with at the Pink Pony, or maybe a friend who wrote this song after coming out to their parents. I, of course, say, “yes” and within a few hours somebody has a demo. It’s all over, I walk out the door, song in my head. Clouds part and the sun sets over the city.

It was the late 90s in the east village, unbridled creativity was in the air, and talent was lush. Life was a whole lot less expensive, too. It wasn’t unusual to walk out the door, sit down at a coffee shop for a cup with a journal or book, get into a conversation about literature, music or art, and the next thing I know, winding up at a studio making art or music.

I wish my days were still like that. The sharing, the immediacy of art.

I don’t remember the artist I sang with – but maybe if they hear this a mystery will be solved!

Many Other People (demo, 4-track?) – artist unknown

  1. I also love that it came up as a clue to a treasure hunt, like it wandered back home to emerge out of the fog on the Moors and be given a warm scarf for the neck and after some water it just opened up and POWER!

  2. WOW! This is fantastic! Fantastic start to finish! Cascades of ablution tingles right from the intro piano and all the way through, pulsing up and down and around kelping in the sway of ocean waves lifting and pulsing. This is big and full and robust and goes deep… like, “To reach Heaven one’s feet must first touch down in Hell.” (C.G. Jung). Powerful, Holly! Thank you so much for sharing this. Such an anthem of freedom and sovereignty after yoked and indentured pain Built to to explode open the seed husk, the egg, the chrysalis and open to the world.
