Dismantled Thing 9 : Venus Gate

Making Things

This is one of those pieces where I began with one idea in mind, and ended with something way different. Actually, it’s almost always like that for me – if I know exactly what’s going to happen, why do it? There is a certain amount of push and pull between directed controlled focus and letting go – surrendering to the texture and the medium.

Playing with cardboard as canvas is fun – it takes the preciousness out of art making.

For me, it’s the process of making that is sacred.

Yet, pigment to canvas/paper/cardboard is one of those activities that ends up as a physical thing. That feels good – especially in a world that has become virtual. Personally, since so much of what I do is physical, but doesn’t necessarily result in tangible things (making music, performing, mtn biking) – it is pleasing to have something in my hand at the end of the experience.

This is it for now. I have more coming, but they need to dry.

I'm a rock-n-roller poet who left the Big Apple for the Big Sky Desert where I've been letting it be and grooving with universal love, singing to the gods, dancing with the muses and bicycling with dreamtime messengers. I like altering my reality through imagination, movement, breath, and makin' stuff.
