Asking for help
I’ve just created a gofundme campaign called Help Keep Holly’s Smile Going. I finally reached a tipping point for what I could handle with my bills and debt after an emergency dental procedure I had in February.
It’s been a rough year emotionally, physically, mentally, and spiritually. I am really grateful for my community – and even though it’s been hard, it’s been deeply healing. I don’t want to recount it all – I’m just asking for help.
Here is the GoFundMe campaign –
Help Keep Holly’s Smile Going
Hi everyone!
It seems these days there comes a time in so many artists’ lives when we say, “Hey community, I’m asking you for your help to cover a medical bill.”
And now, my time has come.
I’m asking for help.
And saying, “Hello!”
For those of you who don’t know me – or those of you who know me a little – I’m a multi-passionate painter, writer, musician, yogi, workshop and meditation leader. I’ve been an active performer and artist since 1987.
Art is my main way of making a living. At the end of 2021 – I chose to leave my established life, friends, music, and art career in the Southwest and came back to New York to care for my mom.
My heart is tender. I am so grateful to be here for Mom.
I had no idea I would have to put everything else on hold (including making money) while it took almost a year to get insurance and care for her – and most of the care is still mainly on my aunties, my sister, and me.
Grief has changed me.
It has been a slow move back to the world, to creating – after covid, after leaving Arizona, in the middle of helping my mom die – I get out there, go out there, make a video, make some art, sing a song, and then – I have to hide, rest, sleep off the vulnerability hangover. That’s how it goes these days.
And all I can do is go slow.
It’s taking time to get my footing.
While I am beginning to rebuild my body of work, I am seriously financially fragile.
What’s going on?
About a month ago, I had emergency dental surgery that saved my tooth but left my head spinning. Thank goodness I was sitting in the dentist’s chair when the doctor told me it would cost $4,400 for the procedure.
$4400 to be paid upfront. $4400.
After leaving the dental clinic, the world swirled around me while numbers spun in my brain. My jaw ached. My tooth throbbed. Step by step, I made it to the pharmacy, got my antibiotics and Ibuprofen, and staggered home.
I told myself, “Don’t let this sink you.” I thought of all the things I was grateful for that day. I turned the situation over to the Universe (and then took it back again). I shared my dilemma. I called other dentists – barely anyone takes new patients these days – and the price was the same everywhere.
Gulp!
I applied for Care Credit and was approved at 28.99% compound interest.
There’s no way around a tooth infection. I’m keeping my teeth! I intend to be healthy for a long time! I went back to the clinic, used the credit, and had the procedure.
A few days ago, the work was finished.
As the dental dust settles, and my mind clears – I realize – I need help!
This huge expense has come at a profoundly difficult time in my life.
I am asking for your help.
How can you help?
1. Book a Tarot reading with me! It would be awesome. I love doing tarot readings and it’s a fun way to connect. Check out my Tarot page – from there you may reach me directly.
2. Buy some of my art. New stuff is coming! The best way to see what I am up to is to go to my Instagram @holly_troy_art
To see all of it, go to my website – holly troy sacred folly – from there you may reach me directly.
3. Donate here at Gofundme.
Every penny helps, every dollar helps.
Thank you!
If you can’t help financially right now, that’s okay. Sharing and sending encouragement also helps immensely.
My heart is cracked open. Tenderness, caring, grief and love are thorough teachers.
I’ll be sending everyone gratitude, love, and Reiki no matter what.
I love you! You’re all amazing.
Thank you!
Peace, love, and Rock-n-roll!
Holly
Dental work bites! My wife is having to get a few implants. They are expensive and insurance is of little help.

I’m so sorry you’re going through it. I have had a lot of dental work over the last 15 years. Most of my debt is from the dentist –
It bites indeed, Timothy. I hope you’re well.
And thank you.
