My friend Chris Courtney makes some great points in his Elephant Journal article: An Open Letter to the Yoga Alliance. [It appears that the link to Chris’s article no longer exists].
I finally registered with Yoga Alliance because I needed to be an RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher) in order to get certain jobs. And, in reality, I am an ERYT (Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher), I just haven’t gone back over the years to add up the hours I have taught and send them in to the Yoga Alliance with the fee for the “E” that says I have taught over 500 hours of yoga.
Some of my favorite points that Chris makes are:
- Yoga Insurance for Teachers It’s been years since I’ve had health insurance – the last time I did was from a job that made me ill.
- Promotion of Yoga in the United States We need more than yoga journal that’s for sure.
- Advocacy and Educational Standards Again, what are the standards?
- Member Services So far, what are they?
Check out the article. Would love to hear your comments . . . Any yoga teachers out there wonder what the heck Yoga Alliance is doing for you?
Namaste ~
