Every year, Kayleigh Jean from Falcons and Pentacles offers April Fool’s Journey – prompts for exploring the Major Arcana (the Hero’s Journey) through divination though tarot cards and a writing prompt. These are the cards I pulled for my own exploration – try pulling cards for yourself – or – get a reading from me.
Prompt for the Emperor: Healthy self-discipline looks like . . .
Page of Wands Rx and Ten of Wands
Emperor and the Page and Ten of Wands is triple fire! This is a serious call for action!
Page of Wands is feeling the stirrings of new creative inspiration or potential that is daring me to see myself differently. There is restlessness and a sense of longing to get things moving, to take some risks. Page wants to play and have adventure, but needs nurturing and guidance to keep the spark alive.
Ten of Wands is hesitating to explore the Page’s urges – it is feeling burdened by worldly responsibility and achievements, which cuts the flow of creative imagination. The problem is, despite the constraints of the world, the ideas keep coming and without expression, they get backlogged and start to feel heavy. Ten of Wands is beginning to feel the pain and stiffness of holding on to what once worked. There is the choice of what to keep and what to let go.
Creativity is sort of like traveling in time. We work backwards from the initial vision/inspiration of the fantasy to generate the path toward the desired result. It also builds forward, excavating experiences, learning, and using talents to navigate the path. Finally, there is the fulcrum – the focus of being fully present in the process — releasing anxiety about what’s to come and releasing regret about what has or hasn’t happened. Often the outcome is very different than the original conception — which is a good reason to follow through on the vision to begin with!
Rather than allowing only my past to create my present, I can allow my future to create my present — all while being deliberate in my present.
The world is in huge transition! What we were once used to is not what we are experiencing right now. It is time to stop dragging around stale dry dreams, they are still valuable — as the source of kindling for new innovative fire. Healthy self-discipline looks like letting go of the old paradigm to allow space and energy for creating a new paradigm.
Sounds serious! Page doesn’t understand serious, and Ten is weary of serious. My approach to this shift must come from an attitude of playfulness and joy by asking daily questions like “what if . . .” and “wouldn’t it be really cool if . . .” and then taking one to three actions a day that feel energizing and maybe a little risky. Also, I really just need to take some time to move my body – ride my bike, do breath of fire pranayama, dance, laugh, get outside and be in the sun.
I know one thing I do right now that is creative and fun and scary. It also forces me to be present. Playing and making videos of the Isolation Songs with Paul. But already – a new paradigm. No music gigs to go to? We make out own.
Thanks for reading!
Be well everyone. Stay safe. Find ways to have fun.
Sat nam and so much love,
Holly
