One of my favorite filmmakers, I am so grateful for Terry Gilliam’s daring and his humor. When I was a little girl growing up in a conservative little town in NJ, Monty Python helped me make sense of a hypercritical world – and to know I wasn’t crazy for not completely trusting the adults in my world.
Two shows had a big effect on me: M.A.S.H and Monty Python.
There is something absurd about people who are a little too straight-laced.
In this interview he says, “Humor is a sense,” and laughs and laughs. So delightful!
He talks about how things are really unadventurous and uptight today. It’s a strange time to be a storyteller, or an artist. I’m so glad to hear an interview like this – expand your mind, perceive the world in new ways, get a little uncomfortable, and for fuck’s sake, play!
“Terry Gilliam is the creative, comedic mind behind some of cinema’s most imaginative and thought-provoking films.
The only American member of the legendary British comedy troupe Monty Python, Gilliam’s contributions to cinema include gems like Time Bandits (1981), Brazil (1985), The Fisher King (1991), Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998), and The Brothers Grimm (2005).” – Rick Rubin
This is a list from TMDB of his movies. He is also an actor and writer and was part of the comedy troupe Monty Python.
