Writing Prompt 211 – Creation/Destruction Cycle?

Prompt

“We live in a culture that kills artists.” – Jeff Buckley

On Writing

Breathe the sentence in. Exhale the sentence. Inhale and exhale each word. Now inhale and exhale the sentence. Then, go!

There is only one rule, keep your hand moving.

Don’t worry about grammar, spelling, or punctuation. If you feel stuck, keep writing anyway. Try going back to the prompt and write it out until other words arise, then write those—or, repeat the last word you wrote again and again until new words appear—or, write, “I am stuck,” or “I can’t think of anything,” as long as you keep your hand moving. Writing is physical, the words will move through your body and come out of your hand—just keep it moving.

Now go – for five, ten, fifteen minutes . .

        1. Today I am doing great. I had a wonderful recharge in Flagstaff for a few weeks, and now I am back in the Hudson Valley. I have a place to live and paint for four months – and after that – hopefully I will have found another place to live. Housing is a wee bit scarce around these parts.

Mom is still with us – she is soaking up the love.

I’m about to set up my studio – it’s time to PAINT again – except for in Flagstaff, it’s been since I left Brooklyn 6 months ago that I last painted. That’s not so good considering it’s how I make a living! But I’m getting back to it!

I hope you are doing well!

          1. That’s good you have a place for a few months. It would be better if you had long-term studio space. Are you doing any music? I’m having various issues do to arthritis, spondylitis, and lingering side effects from chemo and the stem cell transplant. But I’m plugging along.

            1. Oh! I’m sorry you are having pain – and – I’m glad you are plugging along despite it.

I made music when I was in Flagstaff - recorded Chances with Paul! And I have a music partner here in the Hudson Valley, too – it’s been a while since we got together, but it’s fun when we do! We have loose plans . . .

I’m also playing and singing on my own. Though, my better acoustic guitar is in Arizona, and so is my amp. Once I really determine where I am going to land – I will do a road trip and get all my things.

              1. You are still a little scattered. Traveling to Texas for the total eclipse, and now that it’s owl season, I haven’t played in the past few weeks. I had been doing well at playing everyday before that. I got my 2023 Wolf Moon song played on radio stations in Texas, Costa Rica, Peru, Brazil and the UK in January to celebrate this year’s wolf moon. I got Teagan to sing this year’s Wolf moon song and the song came out really well with her voice. I wrote and recorded a song for Valentine’s Day that my wife calls my Dick song. I recorded a couple of covers, recently, which I had never done before. At least I’m managing to do music through the pain.

                1. WOW!

Sounds like so much is happening. And Teagan singing – yay. And the Dick Song – that’s funny. (I wrote a song about someone tailgating me – it’s called Don’t be a Dick, ya Dick)

Still a little scattered – and – feeling way more grounded than I have in a long long time,.

            2. I may also try and get an art studio separate from where I live – since so many people want me pet sitting – it might behoove to just have a work space and let my “home” be more loose. If I have to sleep in the studio every now and then that wouldn’t be so big of a deal. Not ideal, but not terrible either.
