along the edges of fate, press into the thin skin of sublime choice
~ ~ ~ ~
This poem arose from the writing prompt on September 16, 2020, from Invocation of Solitude. I had been reading M Train, by Patti Smith. I was lonely, even though in a relationship – and I was struck by the richness of connection that Patti had with her late husband Fred “Sonic” Smith, even though he had been gone for decades.
And I was thinking about the pending US election, and how people were going to choose. That feels so long ago.
Six months later, I am thinking about choice again. All the choices we make in a day. All the conscious and unconscious choices we make. How all the choices add up. I’m wondering, what would happen, if for a day, every time I made a choice, no matter how big or small, I stated – “I am choosing . . . “
How would that feel?

I loved M Train. I have yet to read Year of the Monkey. So good!
