Music Monday – Water Bear Madness

The Tardigrade – Two Takes on one Song

The toughest tiny creatures on the planet got spilled on the moon last year. If anything could survive a crash landing on the moon – it would be our friends, the water bear.

Here are two versions of a song celebrating the Tardigrade.

Planet Sandwich

The first is performed by Paul Perreault’s band, Planet Sandwich. It’s on their latest CD, Quiche! Paul has been creating an animation in which we see the tardigrade in all sorts of situations. In this video, it’s a quick clip of the tardigrade hanging out at the beach.

The Unicornicopians

The next is by another band that Paul is in called The Unicornicopians. Robert Velcheck sings the main vocals on this one. This will be their debut single.

The Water Bear is the perfect little creature for the recent solstice Cancer Sun/Moon Solar eclipse!

The Tardigrade was written by Robert Velcheck and Mark Zaim.

  1. HA! Love it. 🙂 The 2nd one is like the Rammstein Session with a psychedelic B-52s vibe! I like them both, though the vocals and drums and guitar on the 1st one from Planet Sandwich are more full and immersive. Plus, the drums. Poetry played by Animal on the first one, tight and rhythmic almost spilling over the bar line though not. The Master sips the tea on the stormy ocean, peacefully walks the crystal through the mosh bit unmoved.

I’m going back to listen to the 1st one again. It.Is.So.Full!

  2. “When it comes to death, I make my own laws.” “I can handle the pressure, about a quarter million psi.” DAYum YES! Paul’s vocals, the lyrics and the music? Driving with wicked cool drumming. Tight. Tight. Tight. No rushing or dragging. I float-fly over the ocean with most Tycho, though this? I was skiing, like I was intensely skiing on a wicked cool rushing river. Ex-Per-I-Ential!! This is quite a song! My head nodding the whole time like I was Machine Gun Smith or Meytal Cohen or Cobus Potgeiter behind their respective kits. LOVE IT!

Now, to listen to the 2nd one.

    1. Troy, the drummer is amazing. He also plays on the second one. I can’t wait to share this with Paul – he will be so moved! Thanks, Jordan.

On the second one, Paul plays bass and some guitar and auxiliary percussion. 🙂

      1. Please do. I WAS moved on the 1st one. THe 2nd one was good, though a bit on the clever side, like a Producer torqued the bent and thematically didn’t do it a service. It’s no slouch, though compared to the 1st by Planet sandwich… the 1st one has every thing it needs. Felt a bit like driving my Audi TTS years back trying to find out if the governer really did kill the fuel injectors at 150 mph in the States. It did, and no fun float with no power at that speed, until they re-engaged at about 135 and I was back in business. It wasn’t an adrenaline gig, it was that pressurized intensity when fit in surroundings is a calmly volatile oasis, and the air in the space turns to liquid where you feel every little nuance. I appreciate the behind-the-scenes “warm-up is most often not part of the performance. And that performance was stunning. SO engaging in so many ways, music making liquid space. Heck, I was wondering if I was going to develop gills as I was breathing even better immersed in those waters. SaWEET!

          1. 🙂 You’re welcome, Holly. Please thank Paul for me. The other corresponding feeling would be my memories of Possum Kingdom lake in a Bayliner going 60mph on the water with Radar Love blasting! Lol… we got 2 tickets that day. I laugh, Radar Love was playing both times. Guess we dumped the radar overboard. OOPS. 🙂 Water Cops. Not cool like Water Bears.

  3. I really like the song. I think I like Planet Sandwich’s version a little better, but both are excellent. I was hoping to see you a Paul do a song with him playing bass and maybe you strumming along.

    1. Hi Timothy,

Thanks! Paul and I are working on some new ones – and soon I will be playing along on guitar, too.

At some point, yes, there will be videos with bass – and hopefully some of my bandmates from the Conduits. Wait until you see heather Malloy playing bass – oh my gosh – stunning.

I hope you are doing great – and that you had a beautiful weekend/solstice/new moon/eclipse/cat dad father’s day! 🙂

      1. I’m looking forward to the videos. We are doing well. I’m building a new Strat-style guitar with a painting by Tiffany Arp-Daleo, a fellow artis and blogger, on the body. It’s coming along really nicely. We are very busy at work. We can’t find enough qualified applicants to fill positions.
