Gifts from the past

Currently, Mercury is retrograde in the sign of Aquarius. Retrograde Mercury often gets a bad rap for being a time of confusion, miscommunication, and technology breakdowns. And all those things can happen when Mercury is retrograde for sure – especially when we are going to fast, rushing around to get things done, not taking a breath before answering an email, not leaving enough time to get from A to B in a relaxed, safe way. 

Mercury retrograde is a reminder to inhale and exhale. It’s a time to reassess, review, remember, reconnect. Often lost things turn up that we may have forgotten about, or news we didn’t know about is revealed, or we may find ways to rearticulate or restate something. We get the chance to go a bit deeper over what needs reexamination or reconsideration. While this may not be the time to start a new project, we can restart a project that previously got shelved or lost steam.

It’s a time to slow down and look around. Stay open to revelation.

It’s redo time. Frame it as a time for second chances three or four times a year for three weeks at a time. If you constantly ran at full speed all the time, 365 days a year, you would burn out. Also, keep in mind, everyone is experiencing the slow down as well (unless you were born with Mercury in retrograde, or your progressed chart has Mercury in retrograde – then this is GO time for you). 

Imagine it like a retard in music, the tempo gradually slows down and takes you on a side trip, a different feel in the song, a meander perhaps before accelerating to the original tempo. It’s gradual, but you still sense it is happening – and your attention is pulled in a new direction for a bit. Maybe you were dancing furiously and now you can slow down your movement, make some refinements, breathe, make space, explore repetition and build something new before the finale. 

Think about all words that begin with “re” – and what meaning they hold for you. 

During Mercury retrograde, we may hear from people we haven’t heard from in a while. My favorite astrologer, Anne Ortelee, says this is a time when we hear from our ghosts – whether living or no longer on this plane. They have messages for us. So if they come calling – talk to them! Or, we may feel like reaching out to those we have’t talked to in a while. Reach out!
