Music Monday Bonus – The Halfbreeds Gone Anti-Folk

Magical Musical Surprise

This morning I was delighted to find a kind message and a video of an acoustic gig I played with The Halfbreeds at the Fort at Sidewalk Cafe in the spring of 1997. Francis and I played as a duo that night – and we did our grooviest folkiest songs.

Brian Bary made the video, his youtube channel is called systemsunlimited – and it looks like there is a lot of music from the 90s East Village New York up there!

Many times when I am performing, I see cameras out and know people are taking videos or photos, but almost never see the videos – so this is super sweet. And Brian wrote:

I realize it’s been over 20+ years, but I wanted to mention that I recently posted to YouTube one of your semi-acoustic shows with Francis from the Sidewalk Cafe back in 1997. I took the Hi8 video after seeing one of your electric shows, I believe at The Continental. I hope that’s okay. I was a bit uncertain about reaching out to you as I do like to respect the privacy of others . . . But then I was thinking you might like to know about this video, just in case you wanted to let other fans and friends of your band know about it so that they could enjoy the show as well . . . I just wanted to mention that I have enjoyed listening to these songs by you and Francis for many years . . .

It looks like Francis and I were trying out some new songs that night! It was so good to hear them – it’s been a long time!

I’m grateful for this video (thanks Brian), grateful for the music and the years Francis and I played together, and I am grateful for my vocal coach, Don Lawrence! I went through a tinge of regret for quitting music for 14 years as I watched this, but hey, I’m back.

Rock on!
