I recently had a conversation about yoga, somatics, and Goddess Shakti with yoga instructor Rachel Heart. As a teacher, Rachel is an artist, healer, and activist, and she is one of the first people I talked to about aha exchange. I am so grateful she agreed to an interview.
What a lovely afternoon I had! Rachel’s work is about Love – talking to her about yoga was joyful and inspiring. We talked about the collective experience of being in a class with a group of yogis, how Rachel got into yoga, how she discovered her teacher Shiva Rae, developing a relationship with the body rather than escaping the body, tantra, free-form movement in yoga, the body’s natural intelligence, reconnecting with Earth, finding Beauty in the mundane, her teachers Angela Farmer and Victor van Kooten, and so much more – including the gifts and twists and turns that yoga brings into our lives.
We also discussed her upcoming six session series — Embodying Shakti: Powerful Practices to Awaken the Goddess Within. I was anxious to speak with Rachel when I discovered she put this together. I am so excited for this yogini circle, it’s going to be a delicious focus on a different Goddess each session. I know I need powerful feminine energy right now – I am ready to experience the embodiment of shakti. Classes are happening at Northern Arizona Yoga Center – starting on Friday, March 30, 2018.
Look around you. I’ll bet you are surrounded by artists, healers, and activists. Reach out. Let people know that they have touched your life in some way. Allow yourself to be inspired by others! Act on your inspiration. Chances are, you are an inspiration as well.
Rachel talked about Angela Farmer’s Snake Dog. I found the Snake Dog video. Wow! (I’m now interested in going to Greece and taking classes with Angela Farmer).
I’ve been taking classes with Rachel since 2016 at The Yoga Experience in Flagstaff, AZ. I was immediately drawn to her compassionate, playful, and wise way of being. After our conversation, today in class, I was conscious of the collective energy in the room and felt just a little bit stronger, a little more flexible, and a little more connected. What a gift!

Namaste, yogis!

Holly, did you take the b&w picture up top? Those feet appear to be literally glowing, blazing white-hot with prana, how is it possible to capture that in a photo!? Or is it just me lol…

I did not take that photo. I need to find out from Rachel so I can give the photographer credit. She has magic feet.

Dammit, I said Rachel Farmer when I meant Angela Farmer, this platform doesn’t seem to give me a way to edit my comment to correct it!
