What can I say? Patti Smith is brilliant in every way.
When I find myself wondering what it’s all about, this life – all I need to do is read a poem by Patti Smith, or listen to a song, and I remember. Nothing special and divine at the same time.
I just read her books, M Train, and before that Devotion. I miss New York – and I am grateful. I am grateful for my time there, especially the 90s and the huge amounts of creative input and output – all the music, the art, the learning, the passion, the love, the gray dusty light.
I have yet to read Year of the Monkey. I am glad to have something to look forward to.

🙂 I get along with him almost too well. The way he expressed things just resonates with me instantly as if it was already my own. Things like:
“One must have a Chaos in the heart to birth a Star.” ~ Friedrich Nietzsche
That Chaos has always felt to be an allusion to Nature, and one’s own natural Nature. That one must have one’s own natural Nature living in their heart to achieve the density of splendor that is a star.
