The Forbidden Words List Update

The Trump Administration Regime can’t handle these words

I began The Forbidden Words Project on March 13, 2025. I post a dictionary meaning of one word or phrase almost every day, along with sentence examples or an article that pertains to the word/phrase for the day.

I began with a list posted by the New York Times, published on March 7th, 2025.

On August 2nd, 2025, I added another list created by AJ Connelly for Pen America. Connelly asserts, “A growing list of words and materials is being scrubbed from government websites and documents and flagged for review by federal agencies in an attempt by the Trump administration to remove all references not only to diversity, equity and inclusion, but also to climate change, vaccines, and a host of other topics.”

Pen America initially published Federal Government’s Growing Banned Words List Is Chilling Act of Censorship on March 21, 2025 with a list that included over 250 words. By May 28, 2025, the article was updated:

The list has now expanded to 350+ words, encompassing even desirable goals like “safe drinking water,” the mention of which can now result in research grants or other agreements with the federal government getting nixed.  Some agencies ordered the removal of specific words from public-facing websites or the elimination of other materials (including school curricula) in which they might be included. In other cases, federal agencies used key words to flag materials for further review or asked staff to limit or avoid their usage.

Pen America’s list nearly doubles the words from the New York Times list. I will go through the New York Times list first and then define the remaining words in the Pen America list. Periodically, I may update the lists.
