My Mother Taught Me Things

My grandmother taught me how to hand-color photographs. I colored this photo of my mom when I was around 11 or 12 years old. I love the translucence and dreamy quality of the color – it heightens the beauty, intelligence, and softness of Mom’s gaze.

Mom taught me that God is not an Ever-Watching Old Man in the Sky, but rather a universal energy that flows through everything and everyone. (In other words – she taught me to “be kind” – everything and everyone is sacred).

She encouraged me to use my imagination, creativity, and intuitive intelligence in all situations.

Mom motivated me to be independent and trust my own decisions.

Mom instilled an earnest optimism in my heart.

Happy Mother’s Day, Mom! I love you!
